She’s back

November 20, 2009 Leave a comment

Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit is back as she will be seen as the former Indian Prime Minister in his upcoming film. She will play role of first woman prime minister Indira Gandhi in the film ‘Mother: The Indira Gandhi Story’.

Madhuri Dixit

The film ‘Mother: The Indira Gandhi Story’ is directed by Bollywood filmmaker Krishna Shah who’s writing this script from last 23 years. Talking about the film he says, “It will be in Hinglish. And while there will be songs, it’s not a Bollywood-style film.”

He is great fan of Indira Gandhi and thinks that Madhuri is well suited for the role. For the film and Indira Gandhi he said, “It’s such an exciting, dramatic story. The canvas of her life is too big to be contained in one film.”

It would be real treat to see again Madhuri Dixit on the big screens and especially in role of the Prime Minister.

Best of Madhuri Dixit Films

Tezaab
Ah, the breakout film! This 1988 N. Chandra movie brought Madhuri to the forefront, kicking things off for Bollywood’s biggest female superstar. Opposite Anil Kapoor, the duo never looked back and the crowd couldn’t get enough of the bright-eyed Ek do teen girl.

Madhuri Dixit

Beta
Thanks to ace choreographer Saroj Khan, Madhuri’s always had memorable songs. This 1992 Indra Kumar film featured the provocative smash, Dhak dhak karne laga. A deceptively strong drama, Beta revolved around son Anil Kapoor’s superstrong bond with mother Aruna Irani, a tie that choked Madhuri as his lover. Until she spurred him on to fight back.

Dil To Pagal Hai
In 1997 came a dream romantic project. No one directed a love story like Yash Chopra. No man was finer at it than Shah Rukh. In stepped Madhuri in this Shiamak Dawar-choreographed musical. Chopra directed with restraint and finesse, and a highly polished script makes this a very watchable film. The chemistry between the lead actors is palpable, resulting in a product that made a whole new generation fall in love with Mads.

Dil
Indra Kumar’s 1990 film is one of those that would be much more palatable if Madhuri wasn’t wearing those ridiculous clothes.Still, the story of young love serves as testament to the dazzling actress, as she constantly steals the show from co-star Aamir Khan, winning a well-deserved first Best Actress award in the process.

Madhuri Dixit in Dil

Hum Aapke Hain Kaun
The biggest film in Bollywood box office history, this one’s a justifiably popular pick.Sooraj Barjatya’s 1994 slice-of-wedding-cake
film starred Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan as innocent and carefree kids who can’t help falling in love. Madhuri’s Nisha was stunning, enthused, plucky and irresistible. The situation goes from heavenly to godforsaken, and while the end remains a stretch, the film broke new ground and changed Bollywood convention forever.

Madhuri Fan across border

Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit, who has mesmerised millions across the country, has found a new fan from across the border in none other than Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari.

The celluloid diva of the 90s, who shot to fame with her scintillating dance number in ‘Tezaab’, immediately came to his mind when Zardari was asked about his favourite actress in tinsel town.

“Now I am not able to watch Bollywood movies. But I remember Madhuri Dixit,” he said.

The Pakistan President also stressed on opening the movie industry between the two neighbouring countries, saying not much progress has taken place on that front.

Dixit began her acting career in Bollywood with her debut in ‘Abodh’ in 1984. But her dance and acting skills earned her stardom in ‘Tezaab’ in 1988. Dixit continued her success feat performance in films like ‘Ram Lakhan’, ‘Parinda’ and ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ among others.

She left the industry post-marriage only to make a comeback and is still very much sought for as yet.

For there is just one Madhuri Dixit…evergreen and ever-lovely.

Madhuri SRK rocked in Koyla

July 23, 2009 Leave a comment

Koyla, a 1997 film starring SRK & Madhuri is indeed a personal favourite and well made film for several reasons. Even otherwise, any movie starring Shahrukh Khan,Madhuri Dixit and Amrish Puri is bound to be highly entertaining.

koyla

Without sounding cliched, it is still evident that Koyla has everything you’d expect from a great movie (particularly a Bollywood romance/action movie)-a superb story,adventure,comedy,over-the-top action,a great romance and some wonderful song and dance numbers. Though some sequences really go unbeleivable but then this is what typical bollywood masala flicks are like. The songs are also subtitled so the meaning and relevance of each can be fully understood and some of them are just serenely beautiful.

Shahrukh Khan played the wounded and loveable hero better than anybody else and always with such tremendous gusto.

And then there’s Madhuri Dixit,a damn fine actress who excudes a natural charm and beauty in any film she’s in.I love the strong willed characters she’s played in the past and her role as Gauri is no exception. Madhuri is also one of the few actresses who can Really dance and in Koyla she dances like the wind!

Amrish Puri played the Raj (a village Zamindar) with skin-crawling relish. Those eyes!Yeesh.

The supporting cast is great with Johnny Lever throwing in his usual slapstick comedy which can sometimes be irritating, while Deepshikha’s performance was a stand-out.
Kudos must also be given to Rakesh Roshan who co-wrote and directed the film, keeping it engaging all the way through to the end.

The downside to Koyla is perhaps the gratuitous violence (which some could argue is perfectly acceptable in an action film),the shabby special effects and the dodgy fight scenes where you can clearly see the actors are’nt even coming into contact with each other. The editing’s not so hot either.

Koyla only did moderately well at the box office when it premiered back in 1997, but for me it was an instant hit for fans of Madhuri and SRK.

All round, it was not that bad!!!

Anil Kapoor is brilliant like always says Madhuri

anil and madhuri

Anil Kapoor, Madhuri’s co-star, who got that deserving accolades for his role as the host of a game show in television. Madhuri said, “Anil Kapoor is brilliant, like always. Considering we have given so many hits together, I was genuinely happy for his achievements. I admire and respect him a lot for his dedication to his work. I am probably one of the few people who’s seen Anil work really hard.

Sometime, I envy him. Even today, he has the same enthusiasm, and gusto towards work. And to top it, he has maintained himself so well, that is a feat. The way he has chosen his roles and , is noteworthy. I have learnt that one has to be good in your craft no matter how bad or boring the job is. He taught me that our performance is everything.

Anil for me will always be this big moviestar. What I really like about him is his enthusiasm for everything. Even on the sets he would be full of excitement. Recently it was heartening to see him, like a child jumping with joy when we won the Golden Globe award and the rest of the awards. I wondered why everyone was surprised. That’s him. He has always been like this. He wears his excitement on his sleeve and why not? Isn’t there a saying , happiness shared is double happiness? We all feel happy but we are scared to flaunt it for the fear of being judged by people around.

Out of the many films we did together, my favourite film with Anil has to be Tezaab and Pukar, as we got a lot of scope for performing. Probably he was one of those rare actors who I was in sync with my my thoughts and performances on screen. We really hit it off very well, were looked upon as a good onscreen pairs, because we had a great off screen rapport too.

There’s No Fear In Me-Madhuri Dixit

June 27, 2009 2 comments

Madhuri Dixit

Critics panned Madhuri Dixit‘s comeback vehicle Aaja Nachle as did audiences, but Madhuri Dixit is unconcerned and says she was never worried about a film’s box office performance.

With theatre as its backdrop, the film revolves around Madhuri who returns from New York to her hometown to revive the local Ajanta theatre. The actress has some memorable dance sequences in the film despite being out of practice.

“With two small kids it’s very difficult to continue dance. And I was pregnant half the time that I’ve been married. Out of the five years I was away I was pregnant and then looking after my kids. So after ‘Devdas’ I hadn’t danced at all,” said Madhuri.

There’s no fear of failure in the actress. Madhuri is just happy that something different has been attempted in her comeback film. There was no hero in the film. Madhuri Dixit has worked with terrific directors and choreographers in good subjects.

In Aaja Nachle Madhuri Dixit was working with Vaibhavi Merchant who’s an ardent fan of the actress. But in Aaja Nachle there were so many actors shooting with Madhuri all the time. Aaja Nachle was a film about the erosion of our tradition and culture. The movie addresses the question of tradition and modernity.

Still people haven’t forgetten Madhuri dixit.

Gayatri reminds of Madhuri

June 26, 2009 2 comments

madhuri

‘Let’s Dance’ actress Gayatri Patel is a great dancer and reminds of dancing superstar of the country Madhuri Dixit. The film is getting rare reviews even if through mouth to mouth publicity.

Continuing its streak of good reviews, the film has now received glowing comments from the popular US-based magazine, India West. Some critics have even called ‘Let’s Dance’ “a crisper, far smaller but
emotionally gripping and superior product to ‘Aaja Nachle’, which had a similar theme.”

The film is marked by decent music, some fabulous choreography and dances by debutant Gayatri Patel and overall good performances from the entire cast.

Gayatri Patel is the best dancer we have seen since Madhuri Dixit, and that’s no exaggeration despite her humble status today. Her climactic Bharatanatyam dance is the highlight. As actors, she and her twin
leading men Ajay Chaudhary and Aqib Afzaal act well… Among the kids, child actor Aabhaas Yadav dances like a dream and plays to the gallery, and yet it is diminutive Nikuunj Padaya as Ali who stands out
as an endearing presence.

‘Let’s Dance’ is a welcome first shower after a long spell of qualitative dry fare.

That’s quite some praise for a film with modest beginnings.

Charity on Madhuri Dixit’s Birthday

The Aaja Nachle queen, Madhuri Dixit’s birthday this year offered her fan Pappu Sardar another chance to display his philanthropic side by doing something unusual.

 Madhuri Dixit

Owner of a popular chaat shop in Sakchi, Pappu bore all the expenses of the wedding held at Cheshire Home in Sundernagar of a Muslim couple. Pappu is celebrating Madhuri’s birthday every year since 1996. But this marriage has been the most special gift to Madhuri.

The bride belonged to a poor family and had no money to get married. Pappu decided to help them. Pappu said, “my condition was that the marriage would be today. I know if Madhuri came to know of this, she would be happy.”

Pappu also distributed sweets and cakes among mentally challenged children at Cheshire Home. The celebrations started last evening with a procession in Sakchi.

A special cake named Madhuri Nagar was cut on the dancing divas birthday. Dhalbhum sub-divisional officer Karthik Kumar Prabhat was the chief guest on the occasion.

A 5ft-4inch replica of Madhuri decked in lehenga choli was also made to add to the celebrations. A havan was organised where Pappu’s family members and friends prayed for the actress. A great fan !!!

Madhuri look-alike TV actress Niki makes a comeback

April 30, 2009 1 comment
Indian actress Madhuri Dixit
Image via Wikipedia

Nikki Aneja, now Niki Aneja Walia, who has always been termed as
television’s Madhuri Dixit is making a comeback, and here is she
speaking about the similarities she shares with the great actress..

Nikki Aneja Walia who created waves with her sensational performance
in Ananda Telefilms’ Astitva Ek Prem Kahaani is all set for her
comeback with Ajay Sinha’s yet another show, Ghar Ek Sapna on Sahara
One.

It does not come as a surprise to Nikki when one addresses her to be
television’s Madhuri Dixit Nene because of various similarities.

Talking about the similarities she finds between herself and the great
actress, we can easily make-out the looks. The two are married abroad.
They have similar smiles, and have done films with Anil
Kapoor
.Remember Mr.Azaad???

Niki is living with this identity since 16 years. Now one more
similarity gets added to the kitty, mainly because Madhuri balances
her professional and personal life by making frequent trips between
U.S.A. and Mumbai, while Niki will be doing the same between U.K. and
Mumbai. She also has to leave her kids there and same is the case with
me. Neither like to be here alone without her children nor Niki.

Since years she have been the Madhuri Dixit of small screen and she
likes it that way.

There are surely similarities between the two, but now it is to be
seen how Nikki fairs in her second innings on TV.

Hope not exactly like Madhuri…Aaja nach Le was not a rage!!!
