Best of Madhuri Dixit Films

Tezaab
Ah, the breakout film! This 1988 N. Chandra movie brought Madhuri to the forefront, kicking things off for Bollywood’s biggest female superstar. Opposite Anil Kapoor, the duo never looked back and the crowd couldn’t get enough of the bright-eyed Ek do teen girl.

Madhuri Dixit

Beta
Thanks to ace choreographer Saroj Khan, Madhuri’s always had memorable songs. This 1992 Indra Kumar film featured the provocative smash, Dhak dhak karne laga. A deceptively strong drama, Beta revolved around son Anil Kapoor’s superstrong bond with mother Aruna Irani, a tie that choked Madhuri as his lover. Until she spurred him on to fight back.

Dil To Pagal Hai
In 1997 came a dream romantic project. No one directed a love story like Yash Chopra. No man was finer at it than Shah Rukh. In stepped Madhuri in this Shiamak Dawar-choreographed musical. Chopra directed with restraint and finesse, and a highly polished script makes this a very watchable film. The chemistry between the lead actors is palpable, resulting in a product that made a whole new generation fall in love with Mads.

Dil
Indra Kumar’s 1990 film is one of those that would be much more palatable if Madhuri wasn’t wearing those ridiculous clothes.Still, the story of young love serves as testament to the dazzling actress, as she constantly steals the show from co-star Aamir Khan, winning a well-deserved first Best Actress award in the process.

Madhuri Dixit in Dil

Hum Aapke Hain Kaun
The biggest film in Bollywood box office history, this one’s a justifiably popular pick.Sooraj Barjatya’s 1994 slice-of-wedding-cake
film starred Madhuri Dixit and Salman Khan as innocent and carefree kids who can’t help falling in love. Madhuri’s Nisha was stunning, enthused, plucky and irresistible. The situation goes from heavenly to godforsaken, and while the end remains a stretch, the film broke new ground and changed Bollywood convention forever.

Madhuri Dixit’s fondness for Kathak

August 24, 2009 Leave a comment

For Madhuri Dixit dance is more than just an art. It is a device to tap into one’s deeper core. She began dancing at the tender age of two and hasn’t stopped till day when she is forty years old and a proud mother of two kids. Madhuri Dixit has shown her nimbleness at dance in many a Bollywood movie.

She returned to film industry after a hiatus of five years with another dance-based film Aaja Nachle sometime back. Aaja Nachle’ was the tale of a woman who returns to her small town in India after living many years in the US and finds her dance school in ruins and her guru on a deathbed. Thereafter, she takes it upon herself to revive the culture of dance in the town of her birth. Not just for her role in the movie, Madhuri in reality believes that dance is a very good way to “tackle stress” and “re-energize oneself” in today’s hectic times. And more than that Madhuri believes “dancing awakens spirituality”. So strong is Madhuri’s dedication to dance that it has a special place in her future, even though her plan for movies in Bollywood is still tentative. The diva says she plans to return to Kathak seriously. “Getting back to kathak…And when I say that, I mean getting back very seriously. For me, kathak is not a hobby, it’s not like I’ve learnt it for a couple of years or so. For me, it’s a part of life,” Madhuri has quoted somewhere herself . Madhuri also reveals that she has plans to set up a Kathak school someday.

Madhuri sizzled at Nach Baliye 3

Madhuri

One of the Nach Baliye episode promised to make everyone go dhak-dhak. The Jodi’s will be performed on Jalwedaar Yashraj hits and to cheer them none other than Kunal Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma arrived at the show.

After all the performances, it just gets better…! Dancing Queen Madhuri Dixit arrived to cheer the jodis and announced that she would come again too! Madhuri also played a small Aaja Nachle contest with the jodis.

Vaibhavi was ecstatic with her presence and all the judges and Jodi’s took to the stage to shake a leg with the dancing diva herself!

Madhuri Magic in Lajja

May 22, 2009 1 comment

Madhuri

This was just another power house performance of Madhuri Dixit. In Lajja, her brilliance performance was ajudged quite easily from the fact that she only played a supporting role in this movie and easily gained a nomination for Best Supporting Actress Award at Filmfare.

On a whole, Lajja was quite a hard-hitting attempt to showcase women condition in modern India. Madhuri fan surely must not miss it. She will make you cry and laugh in the movie.

Lajja, a movie in Hindi, released in 2001 directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, is based on the plight of women in India. The movie recountsthe story of four women, and stars some of the best known names in Bollywood, including Rekha, Madhuri Dixit, Manisha Koirala, Mahima Chaudhry, Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor and Ajay Devgan. Urmila Matondkar and Sonali Bendre performed item numbers.

The movie satirizes the honor with which women are placed in society and the restrictions on them. The fact that the four women’s names (Maithali, Janaki, Ramdulhari, and Vaidehi) are all versions of Sita,
the ideal Hindu woman’s name, is a message in itself.

Santoshi says the idea for the story came to him when he read the story of a woman who was gang-raped, but he felt no one would watch a movie based on one woman therefore he added the other story lines.
